Changes to McCombe Road Resource Drop Off Centre

McCombe Road Resource Centre 1

The City of Bunbury will close the McCombe Road Resource Drop Off Centre on Thursday 30 July 2026, following a review of the service.

Key dates at a glance

About the centre

The McCombe Road Resource Drop Off Centre has given Bunbury residents a way to dispose of items unsuitable for the three-bin system, including car batteries, white goods, x-rays, bulk cardboard, de-gassed refrigerators, small appliances and televisions.

Located at 21 McCombe Road, Davenport, the centre has operated Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10.30am to 2.30pm, for City of Bunbury residents only.

Why the centre is closing

Since the centre opened, a wider network of recycling and disposal services has become available across Bunbury – including dedicated e-waste collection, battery recycling points, and retailer take-back programs for items like TVs and appliances.

The decision to close the centre reflects this changing landscape. Residents’ access to disposal options isn’t reducing – what is changing is that the City will no longer operate a separate, twice-weekly drop-off point alongside a network of services that now provides for these items.

We understand some residents have valued the convenience of the centre, and we’re committed to helping every resident find the right alternative for each item they previously brought to McCombe Road.

Alternative disposal options

Until closure, the centre continues to operate as normal – residents can still bring accepted items on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10.30am to 2.30pm, with proof of residency.

The City has prepared a guide showing where each type of item can be taken after closure.

What happens to the site

Following the closure, the City will begin considering future options for the McCombe Road site. As with any City land, this process will be transparent and follow all required planning, approval, advertising and community consultation steps.

We want to be upfront that this process will commence shortly after the centre closes. No decisions about the site’s future have been made, and the community will have opportunities to have their say through the formal processes that apply to any change of this kind.

Questions?

For questions about the closure, or help finding an alternative disposal option, contact the City’s Waste Department on 9792 7333 or info@bunbury.wa.gov.au

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The McCombe Road Resource Drop Off Centre will close on Thursday 30 July 2026. Bunbury residents can continue using the facility, as normal, until this date.

  • Car batteries, scrap metal, white goods, x-rays, bulk cardboard, printer ink, automotive and hydraulic oil, de-gassed fridges, cooking oil, small appliances and digital equipment such as TVs and computers.

  • Alternative disposal and recycling options are available for most items previously accepted at the facility. The City has prepared a list of alternative disposal locations and services to help residents find the right option for each material – view it here.

  • Yes. The closure doesn’t mean these items can no longer be recycled. Many materials can still be disposed of through dedicated recycling services and collection points across Bunbury and the South West. A full guide is available here

  • The McCombe Road centre stopped accepting hazardous household waste two years ago. This can be taken to the Stanley Road Waste Management Facility, run by the Bunbury Harvey Regional Council, which is open every day.

  • Since the centre opened, a wider network of recycling and disposal services has become available across Bunbury – including dedicated e-waste collection, battery recycling points, and retailer take-back programs for items like TVs and appliances.

  • No. The closure doesn’t change what happens to materials once they leave the centre, or the disposal options available to residents.

  • The City remains committed to supporting our residents’ access to recycling and disposal services. This change is about not duplicating a network of services that already exists, rather than a change in the City’s approach to waste and sustainability.

  • Following the closure, the City will begin considering future options for the McCombe Road site. As with any City land, this process will be transparent and follow all required planning, approval, advertising and community consultation steps.

  • The decision followed a review of the service and consideration of Bunbury’s changing waste and recycling landscape. The City is using an inform approach to community engagement – providing information and support to help residents understand the changes and access alternative disposal options.

  • The closure itself doesn’t change residential kerbside waste collection services. Costs for alternative disposal options will depend on the individual service provider and material type, we recommend contacting them directly to confirm.
