Brother and Sister Coming Home

The current image has no alternative text. The file name is: Russell-Sheridan-Brother-and-Sister.jpg

One of Bunbury's most beloved public artworks is heading back to its home at the Victoria and Wellington streets roundabout!

On Friday 27 March, the iconic Brother and Sister sculptures, created by local artist Russell Sheridan, will be reinstalled following recent maintenance works.

To allow our precious artwork to be safely put back in its rightful home, road closures and traffic management will be in place from 9am to 3pm Friday, around the roundabout during the reinstallation. Given its central location, we kindly ask drivers to take extra care when in the area and follow all signage and directions.

We've worked closely with the artist and contractors to carefully assess and restore the artwork. At the heart of this restoration is the use of beautifully reclaimed timber from the old Fremantle jetty — giving these storied materials a second life, preserving the sculptures' spirit, and ensuring they continue to bring joy for generations to come.

Sharp-eyed locals may also notice the fountain isn't flowing like it used to. Rest assured, the sculptures haven't forgotten how to make a splash — they're just doing it metaphorically these days. This restoration focused on bringing the artwork back to its best, and while the water feature remains off for now, the joy these sculptures bring is anything but dry.

Commissioned in 1994 with support from local businesses including the Rose Hotel and Cronshaws, this piece has become a symbol of Bunbury's laid-back charm – reflecting summer holidays, childhood memories, and the simple pleasures of fishing off the jetty.

Your patience during the road closures below helps us preserve this special piece of Bunbury's story:

  • Victoria Street – closed southbound from Prinsep Street to Victoria/Wellington Roundabout
  • Wellington Street – closed westbound from the Hayley/Prinsep Street intersection to Victoria/Wellington Roundabout

All of our amazing City Centre businesses and sidewalks will still be accessible during the installation.

Welcome home, Brother and Sister – refreshed and ready to keep watch over the City Centre once more.
