To enhance safety and reduce vehicle speeds, our traffic calming projects aim to create a harmonious balance between vehicles and pedestrians. Through the implementation of innovative measures we create safer environments for everyone.

By visiting this page, you can stay informed about the latest updates on our ongoing traffic calming projects, including timelines and any potential road closures or detours. We are committed to minimising disruptions and ensuring a smooth flow of traffic during these enhancements.

Ecclestone Street, Nuytsia and Hands Avenues Intersection Upgrades and Ecclestone Street Reseal

As a part of our Local Area Traffic Management Program, we will be undertaking reseal and upgrade works at the intersection of Ecclestone Street and Hands and Nuytsia avenues. The second stage of works will include realignment of the road and upgrade to traffic calming measures along Ecclestone Street, either side of the horse crossing.

The horse crossing area will not be part of works and will be usable throughout the project. All work will be scheduled with consideration for animal welfare and the times when horses typically use the crossing area.

Work is expected to start 12 January 2026 and is expected to take eight weeks to complete.

The intent of this project is to provide additional safety for crossing Ecclestone Street and to provide visual cues to slow traffic in the area. The new traffic calming measures will consist of raised plateaus, replacing the existing median islands. These plateaus feature gentle slopes that gradually raise the road surface by 75mm over a short distance, creating a smooth transition that naturally encourages drivers to slow down while remaining comfortable for all road users.

The design drawings are below – please check them out.

A number of factors are considered by our team when deciding on a design like this, including minimising impact on trees and vegetation, existing traffic volumes and speeds, engineering design standards and topography. Traffic management will be in place during the work, as necessary.
