Withers Community Library

The City of Bunbury offers two convenient library locations: the Bunbury Public Library, the main library in the heart of Bunbury’s CBD, and the Withers Community Library, offering a peaceful community hub located in the southern Bunbury suburb of Withers.

The Withers Community Library offers an extension of many of the library's services, as well as regular programs, special workshops and events.

Share Your Feedback - Withers Library Opening Hours Trail

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts and helped shape the extended opening hours at Withers Community Library. With the trial now underway, we’d love to hear how these new hours are working for you.

The trial will run until 31 December 2026, delivering a 40% increase in operating hours and creating more opportunities for programs and services.

We’re committed to making sure these changes genuinely meet the needs of our community and your feedback will help guide future decisions about library services at Withers.

How to have your say:

  • Hard copy survey: Available at Bunbury and Withers libraries during opening hours
  • Drop-in sessions: Chat with City staff in person on the last Saturday of every second month, the next session being Saturday, 28 March 2026.

  • The extended opening hours trial at Withers Community Library has commenced, replacing the original hours (Mon-Fri, 9am to 1pm. Closed weekends and public holidays.)

    The new extended opening hours are:

    • Monday: Closed
    • Tuesday: Closed
    • Wednesday: 9am – 5pm
    • Thursday: 9am – 6pm
    • Friday: 9am – 5pm
    • Saturday: 9am – 1pm
    • Sunday: Closed
    • Closed on public holidays
  • Bunbury Council supported the decision to conduct a trial period of increasing operating hours by 40%, for a 12 month period. Once this trial period is completed and reviewed, a further long-term decision will be made regarding the operating hours of the library.

  • These changes will not affect any operating hours at Bunbury Library.

  • As part of the City of Bunbury’s commitment to providing exceptional service to the Bunbury community, we are excited to announce an increase to the Withers Community Library operating hours.

    The trial commenced on 3 November 2025, offering a 40% increase to operating hours and an opportunity for further programs and services to our community.

    Continuing until 31 December 2026, we will regularly seek feedback throughout the trial to ensure the operating hours of the library meet the needs of the community.

  • Various stakeholder consultations have taken place, along with consultations with our broader community ensuring the proposed amends to the library operating hours are suitable for all.

  • With the extension of the Withers Community Library’s opening hours, we are thrilled to introduce some exciting new programs available to our community:
    Craft With A Laugh
    Every Wednesday, 10am – 12pm
    Connect with others, learn or discover a new hobby, and enjoy a few laughs over a cup of tea or two. This group is a community-run crochet, knitting, and stitch group, open to people of all skill levels and abilities. New members are always welcome.

    Sing-Along Story Time
    Every Thursday during the school term, 9.30am – 10am
    Come along on a magical story time adventure! It’s the perfect way to introduce children to the wonderful world of books and make new friends. Join in the fun-filled morning of songs, stories, and craft activities. Suitable for children aged up to 4 years old.

    Withers Lego Club
    Every Wednesday during the school term, 3.30pm – 4.30pm
    Enjoy a fun, hands-on environment where you can design, problem-solve, and let your imagination run wild with fellow Lego enthusiasts. Suitable for children aged 4-12 years old.

    Tech Help Wednesday
    Every Wednesday, drop in between 11am – 12pm
    Do you have a tech problem? Whether you’re stuck on something or unsure where to start, we’re here to help! These drop-in sessions offer free one-on-one tech support with a friendly team member who is happy to assist you with any issues you may have with your laptop, tablet, or mobile phone.

    We continue to support community groups’ use of the library space for various activities and will continue rolling out our program of library-led activities. For more events and activities across both our libraries, visit our What’s On events calendar

  • Although the library is proposed to be closed two weekdays, this allows for Saturday mornings to be open and also extended hours on the remaining weekdays. This supports the 40% increase in hours nominated and ensures all community members can have additional accessibility in an option on the weekend and also late afternoon.

  • The costs relevant to the additional operating hours have already been factored into the endorsed 25/26 City of Bunbury budget.

  • The trial period of the extended hours commenced take place from 3 November 2025 (instead of 30 September) until 31 December 2026. Once the trial is complete we will re-engage with our community to understand what worked and didn’t work with the changes, and a long term decision regarding the operating hours of the Withers library will be made from there.

  • Any events or activities at Bunbury and Withers libraries require an approved room hire booking, which is subject to availability, terms and conditions. The City’s priority is the safety of our community, and we are bound by duty of care procedures, including appropriate insurance and licencing, so we ask our community to adhere to the correct processes for the benefit and safety of everyone.
