Drop in to the Bunbury Museum for some after-school fun and learn about Japanese culture and language, as we celebrate the Sister City relationship between Bunbury and Setagaya, Japan.
Designed for primary school-aged children (6-12yrs), the activity will have attendees construct and decorate a Maneki-neko (beckoning cat). Originating from the Gotokuji Temple located in the Tokyo ward of Setagaya, Maneki-neko is a symbol of good fortune, wealth, prosperity, and happiness.
Bunbury-Setagaya Biennial Photo Exchange
Coinciding with the South West Japan Festival, the Biennial Photo Exchange will be on display at the Bunbury Museum from 9-20 September 2026.
The Biennial Photo Exchange is a cherished tradition between Bunbury and our Japanese Sister City, Setagaya, since 1995. Selected from the Setagaya Photo Competition, these images offer the public a unique view of life in Japan through the lens of amateur photographers who live or work in Setagaya.
Bunbury will send a reciprocal exhibition of photos to Setagaya in late 2027, to be displayed in the Setagaya City Office.
